METZER, ISRAEL, FEB. 21:An Arab woman kisses her baby that she was having examined by a nurse for the kibbutz Metzer. The kibbutz was created 50 years ago by socialists from Argentina who dreamt of creating a society based on its own work with social justice and equality not just for those living within it but also for its neighbors. The Israeli Jews living here coexisted peacefully side by side with their Muslim neighbors until last year when an unknown terrorist came in the night and went on a shooting spree that left women and children dead and threatened the relationship between Arabs and Jewish neigbors. Since then, they have had to build electric fences, carry guns and change their gentle outlook. But the relationships between thier neighbors, though strained, is enduring and the people here struggle to maintain normalcy in a nation which is moving farther to the right politically every day.
