Lodgepole pine seedlings grow on the edge of a burned area where long interval fires occurred on Thursday, July 8, 2021, in Grand Teton National Park. Long interval fires give lodgepole pines enough time to develop serotinous cones, which drop to the ground after fire and seed new trees. In the foreground, short interval fires wiped out all of serotinous lodgepole pines.
